Rating: PG-13

Emma finished her breakfast and headed over to the Slytherin table. "Almost done?" she asked Regulus as she sat down.

Regulus nodded as he pushed away his bowl. "Yeah," He said with a smile, "Never have much of an appetite in the morning anyway."

"Did you have plans for the day?" She smiled hopefully at him.

"Nothing that can't wait," He grinned, "Why, have you?"

She grinned back at him. "I thought we could spend some time together, me and you. No distractions." Emma was looking forward to the fact that she found a spot Evelyn wouldn't be able to find them.

Regulus raised an eyebrow, "Seriously?" He asked, "Did we have to resort to foul play for this, or are we just particularly lucky today?"

"You just happen to have a very clever girlfriend." She leaned in and kissed his cheek. "So, you up for it?"

"Lucky me," He winked, "And of course, where are we going?"

"Follow me." She stood and held out her hand to him.

Regulus smiled and took her hand, following her out of the Great Hall. "Is this a surprise then?" He asked

"Just don't want everyone to know where it is." She figured he knew who she meant. Emma led him towards the library but veered off at one point. Soon, she stopped at a little alcove with a cushioned bench. "What do you think?"

Regulus blinked. "I've never even noticed this before... Do I want to know how you found it?" he teased.

She laughed. "I was wondering around the other day and I came across it. No one ever uses this hallway."

"Well, it's definitely nice to have somewhere to hide," He said, taking a seat on the bench, "For how big this place is, it sure is hard to avoid people."

She sat next to him. "Especially certain people."

Regulus squeezed her hand. "It's not all that bad though. I occasionally get to run into some people that I like."

She smiled at him. "Yes, well, I do like most of the people I run into. But some people..." Emma shook her head. "Some people I can't seem to avoid." She rested her head on his shoulder.

"Is it Lupin?" Regulus said with a wide grin, "I could take care of that. Oh, do let it be Lupin."

She swatted his arm gently. "You know it isn't. He's my friend, despite how you two don't get along."

"Yeah, I know," Regulus sighed, and rested his head on hers, "So, who is it then?"

"Evelyn." She squeezed his hand. "Ugh, I can't stand her!"

"What did she do?" He asked with a frown, "She's horrid unpleasant from what I've seen."

"You mean other than breathe?" Emma groaned. "Remember the other day when you said I was acting off?"

Regulus chuckled a bit. "Yeah?"

"I fell that day. And I'm pretty sure she was the reason."

"So she's really picking on you then?"

Emma nodded against his shoulder. "I know I don't have proof, but there was nothing on the floor in front of me and then next thing I know, I've landed face first and she going down the hall, laughing." She sighed softly.

"Well, as I see it we can take this one of two ways," He said with a sigh.

"What's the first way?"

"I deal with her."

"Define deal with." Emma squeezed his arm gently.

"I'm sure you'd rather not know," He said, "Besides, the inner workings of a Slytherin mind aren't meant for you to know."

She sighed softly. "That worries me a little. More so because she's a Slytherin too and she's always plotting."

"The second option is that you handle her yourself," He said, squeezing her hand, "I can, and will take care of this for you if you want. I don't mind at all. Actually, I'm almost looking forward to it. But she's also going to know that it was your boyfriend who ultimately stood up for you. She won't respect that, and you'll hear about it I'm sure. She won't even lay a hand on you, or a spell for that matter. But I'm not sure anything on this earth could shut her mouth."

Regulus sighed, already plotting what he was going to do with Evelyn, regardless of Emma's answer. Sirius had made the mountains and molehills comment, but he must not have know how upset Emma was about this.

"I'm not sure how to deal with her. I really, really, want to hex her into next year and make sure she can't talk to a single soul for the rest of her life..." She sighed again. "What the hell does she have against me anyway?"

"I'm sorry," Regulus said softly, "I don't know why, but I'm fairly sure it's my fault. She has this odd interest in me and I don't know what started it."

Emma snuggled a little more against him. "She's just going to have to deal with the fact that you're with me."

"Yeah, but she's a little thick-headed, that one," He replied, putting an arm around her and giving a gentle half hug.

"I've noticed." She sighed and slid her arm around his waist as he held her. "Now, how to I knock her off her high horse?"

Regulus smirked, "She really does bring out the best in you, doesn't she?" He teased, "Maybe you were really meant for Slytherin."

She laughed. "I got sorted into Hufflepuff." Emma lifted her head and looked up at him. "Though, if I was in Slytherin, I might have met you sooner."

"That is true," He said smiling at her, "And just think of all the time we've lost already. I think that hat made a mistake." He leaned in and gave her a quick kiss, happy to see her more relaxed than when they were discussing Evelyn.

"Sometimes I wonder about that whole sorting thing. I think everyone can have days when they should be in another house." Emma smiled warmly at him, faint blush on her cheeks from the fact he'd kissed her.

"Not me," He said proudly, "Slytherin through and through."

She laughed softly and leaned in to kiss his cheek. "You're pretty loyal sometimes, you know." Emma let that comment sink in.

"Oh, that was sneaky," He said, "Slipping that in there like that. I'm telling you, the Sorting Hat made a mistake the day you started here."

"Maybe." Emma smiled brightly at him. "Maybe not."

"I suppose it depends on which one of your personalities was present at the time?" Regulus asked, "That might have an affect on things."

She laughed again. "And how many personalities do you think I have, Reg?"

"Still, I think that's altogether very Slytherin of you."

"I haven't figured it out yet," He said, pretending to think very hard, "Two, possibly three. One can never be sure."

"And which one do you like best?"

"Hmmm... Well, the Emma-who's-out-for-revenge is interesting, I'll grant you," He teased, "But I prefer the one who makes those really good cookies."

She smiled and leaned in for a soft kiss. "Good answer, Reg."

Regulus returned the kiss and pulled her closer to him. "What would you have done if I gave the wrong answer?"

"I'm not sure there really is a wrong answer. Might have swatted you on the arm if you stuck with the me who's out for revenge," she teased.

"Well, then you would have turned into your third personality, the Emma-who-likes-hitting-amazingly-wonderful-guys-who've-done-nothing-wrong."

"And you like them all. Admit it." She grinned.

"Of course I do," He said with a bit of a shrug, "You keep me very well entertained."

She laughed. "At least I'm not insane."

"....." Regulus grinned.

She swatted his arm. "Hey!"

"What?" He asked, pretending to be hurt, "I didn't say anything."

"Exactly." She glared at him, trying, and nearly failing, not to laugh. "It's not nice to imply your girlfriend is insane."

"I implied nothing of the sort," He replied in his best I'm-so-much-better-than-you impersonation, "It isn't nice to falsely accuse your boyfriend you know."

"Oh really?"

"Really," He said, all in mock seriousness, "You have to treat your boyfriend right you know. Just the right amount of kissing and help with overly inflated egos. Shouldn't be too hard."

"I'll be sure to keep that in mind," she said as she kissed him softly. "Though it might take me a little while to get used to the balance."

Regulus smiled and leaned his forehead against hers. "It’s ok. By the time you get used to balancing my needs, I may have gotten used to your multiple personalities."

She smiled. "Alright then. I think that's a fair deal." Emma liked this, the quiet moments, the fact that it was just them.

Regulus could practically hear Severus teasing him for being so completely besotted over a Hufflepuff. Thank Merlin no one was around to bother them. He kissed the tip of her nose and sighed. "I think this is going to be one of my favorite places now."

"I'd like it to be ours for as long as possible," she said softly. Who knew Regulus Black was such a softie? No one, and she wanted to keep it that way, to be the only one who got to see this side of him. She hugged him tight and rested her head on his shoulder.

"Well, you can bet I won't be telling anyone about it," He said confidently, "It's the best hiding spot I've found yet,"

"You've found?" she teased. "I'm sorry, I thought I brought you here. Not the other way around."

"That is true. I guess I should be saying thank you," He smirked, as he kissed her.

She reached up and cupped his cheek as he kissed her. "You're welcome," she murmured softly.

Moments like this made it easy to forget everyone else and their expectations of him. "Definitely my new favorite place," he said softly.

She smiled. "I'm glad." Emma rested her forehead against his, sighing softly. "Is it bad that I think this is perfect?"

"No, of course not," he smiled, "I do too, and we both know I can't be wrong."

She laughed softly. "Heaven forbid the great Regulus Black ever be wrong," she teased.

"It would never happen," He winked, "Though maybe using my full name is a bit pretentious. Maybe I should just use my initials. Wouldn't want to seem stuck up." He grinned

"What's your middle name then? Because the great RB doesn't have that ring to it." She grinned back, enjoying their little game.

"Arcturus." He said, making a face.

"Arcturus," she repeated. "I like it." Emma kissed the tip of his nose. "So that makes you the great RAB." She smiled warmly.

"Well of course it sounds better when you say it," he smirked, 'The great RAB. I like it..

She grinned. "You know, it's only fair if I get a nickname too."

"Hmmmm.... How about Emmy?" Regulus chuckled.

Her smile turned almost wistful. "My father used to call me that when I was little."

Regulus frowned. "Bad, then? Shall I pick something else?'

She nodded. "Something that's just for you."

Regulus sat back on the bench, trying to think of something good. "What is your middle name?"

"It's Jane." She smiled at him. "I told you the Pride and Prejudice was my mother's favorite book. She loved Jane Austen."

"Obviously, Emma," he said with a wink.

Emma smiled, cheeks turning slightly pink. "You don't have to give me a nickname right now. Maybe it'll just come to you."

"I don't know, love," He said scratching his head, "I guess I'm not very good at this..." *still thinking*

"The Great RAB not good at something." She gasped, grin on her face. "For shame!"

"Alas, you're discovered my best kept secret... I am not perfect like everyone thinks. I hope you can keep this between just us? "

"My lips are sealed." Emma lay her head on his shoulder again.

"Oh?" Regulus frowned, "Well that's a shame."

Her brow furrowed and she lifted her head. "Why is that a shame? I thought you didn't want me to tell anyone."

"If your lips are sealed I won't be able to kiss you

Emma almost laughed. "Maybe if you ask nicely, I'll unseal my lips for you."

Regulus grinned, "I'm sure I could find in it me to ask nicely," he said softly, leaning in closer to her.

"I thought you might be able to," she replied as he leaned in, smile slowly creeping over her face.

"Just for you," He replied as he kissed her

The kiss lasted all of a second before she pulled back enough to speak. "You didn't ask," she teased.

Regulus sighed and rolled his eyes. "Please?"

She bit her lip to keep from laughing. "Don't roll your eyes at me."

"Yes, mother," He replied sarcastically, "I'll roll my eyes at whoever I want to," He poked her in the side softly.

She giggled. "It's not nice," she replied, leaning in. "If I was any other girl, I might not want to kiss you."

"Well if you were any other girl I wouldn't want you to kiss me," He said, leaning in close enough to touch noses, "But since you aren't... May I?"

"Good answer," she murmured. "And yes, you may."

Regulus leaned in and kissed Emma, wrapping an arm around her.

Emma slid her arms around his neck as they kissed. This really was perfect.

Regulus wrapped both arms around her and hugged her to himself without breaking the kiss. This was definitely a good day.

When she broke this kiss, this time it was for air. "Wish I'd found this spot sooner," she said softly, breathing against his cheek.

"Me too," Regulus replied,

Emma smiled and blushed her lips over his cheek, not for the first time thinking how much easier it would be if they were both in the same house and had a place they could spend time with one another without having to resort to finding spots like this.

Regulus kissed her forehead and sighed, "We should be getting back. Before someone sends a search party."

She very nearly pouted. "I suppose."

"You don't want them to find us and kill me, do you?" He said with a smirk, "You know, evil Slytherin, poor innocent Hufflepuff...."

She grinned back at him. "Little do they know that I told you how I felt first," she teased.

Regulus smiled, "Yes well you've been hanging out with those Gryffindors a bit too much. Their ridiculous courage has rubbed off on you."

"Would you rather I hadn't told you?"

"No, I'd have to say that for this, and only this, I'm glad for it," He said teasing, "Your courage that is."

She smirked. "And not for say things like this?" Emma leaned in and kissed him, cupping his cheek.

Regulus smiled into the kiss and returned it, breaking it after a moment. "Yes, well... That's very good too."

"See?" She smiled sweetly at him. "And if I didn't have that courage, I wouldn't have brought you here."

"Ok, so maybe it isn't all bad."

She grinned. "Told you."

Regulus threw his hands up in defeat. "You win," He said finally, "Just don't tell anyone. I do have an image to protect after all."

"Your secret is safe with me." She kissed his cheek again. "Boy, you must trust me. I have all these secrets of yours," she teased, pleased that she was the one who got to see this side of him.

"Well, like I said before... You Hufflepuffs are a trusting loyal sort," He grinned, "I think I'm safe with you."

"If we're going by house reputations, I'm not sure I should trust you," she said with a slight smirk.

Regulus frowned, "So you don't trust your own boyfriend? How sad... Maybe I should go?" He was obviously teasing her, and enjoying himself at that.

"Don't you dare," she replied, leaning closer. "Though, if you did, it would certainly be your loss."

"Oh? Would it be?" He pretended to think hard on this, "I don't know..."

“You'd miss out on my wonderful company for starters."

"Well that's true, and I do enjoy your company," He said with a grin, "Couldn't give that up."

She smiled. "And you'd miss out on my baking..."

"That reminds me, I never got to properly thank you for those cookies," Regulus remembered, "They were wonderful."

She grinned. "I'm glad you liked them. I had to agree to let the house elves arrange them in the tin, but I did get to make them.”

"I could tell. They were much better than the ones the house elves make,"

Emma was clearly pleased that he could tell the difference. "You're very welcome," she said as she leaned in to kiss him softly again.

Regulus pulled back after a few seconds and looked at her seriously, "You know.. You know you can trust me, right?"

She smiled warmly. "Of course I know that. I was only teasing.”

"I should have known," He said smiling, relieved.

She cupped his cheek. "I trust you completely Regulus."

Regulus smiled and put his hands over hers. "Thanks,"

Emma leaned in and kissed the tip of his nose.

Regulus raised an eyebrow, "No, that's cute but definitely not enough," He said as he leaned over and kissed her softly.

She smiled as he called her cute. Regulus' kisses, though she had nothing to compare them to, were soft, caring and she loved them.

Regulus smiled, "That's better."

She blushed a little. "I thought you were the one who wanted to head back," she teased, clearly not ready to head back at all.

"Er..." Regulus sighed, "After you."

"No!" She sighed. "I was only teasing you. I really don't want to go back, not yet."

"Well, I certainly wouldn't want to force you to do anything you don't want to do," He said smiling, "So then stay."

Emma snuggled herself against his side. "I will then." She was clearly not letting him leave anytime soon.

"I guess this means I get to stay too?" He chuckled.

"Yep." She wrapped an arm around his waist.

"Oh good," He said, "How long do you think we can hide here before someone finds us?"

"Well, we could probably go a couple of days, but people might start suspecting something if we don't turn up at dinner."

"A couple days?" Regulus said, raising an eyebrow, "Want to test that little theory?"

She grinned. "We'd get hungry, you know."

"That's true..." He said contemplating this, "Well, maybe we could get the house elves to bring us food?"

"I'm sure you could if you asked them nicely." She kissed his cheek. "But I didn't think that was something you did," she teased.

"Just you... Well, that does ruin things, doesn't it? Maybe you could ask?"

She giggled. "I could. But how would we find one to ask?"

"Well, you know where the kitchen is. Aren't they usually down there?"

"That would involve me leaving here, wouldn't it?

"Ah, that is true," He said, hugging her, "And that is most definitely not allowed. At least not right now."

She hugged him back. "We could plan to attempt this another time."

"There's plenty of time left yet, " He said, "It’s not a rush." Nothing was a rush at the moment. He was just enjoying spending the quiet time with her, blessedly uninterrupted quiet time.

"Sounds perfect." Emma closed her eyes as she was snuggled into his side.

Regulus yawned and rested his head on hers.

Emma tucked her legs up and to the side so she was more effectively curled in his side. "Comfy?" she murmured softly.

Regulus lifted his head up. "Almost..."

"What more do you need?"

"Stand up for a second,"

Her brow furrowed but she did as he asked. "What?"

Regulus grinned and grabbed her arm, pulling her down so that she was now seated on his lap, "There, much better," He said as he wrapped his arms around her.

Emma laughed softly. "You're adorable, you know that?" she said, sliding her arms around his neck again.

"I know," Regulus grinned, "But you can keep telling me that,"

"Peacock," she murmured as she leaned in to kiss him again.

"Kitten," Regulus smiled and kissed her back.

For a few moments, she let the world melt away, focusing solely on kissing him, being completely comfortable in his lap.

Regulus hugged her tightly and broke the kiss for a moment, only to kiss her again. He definitely enjoyed spending time with Emma. It was the only time he could be completely relaxed, completely open and not have to worry what people where thinking, or what was expected of him. It was so freeing, he didn't want to leave.

There was no pressure in their little world, no annoying people trying to ruin what they had. This was safe and she was happy, happier than she'd been in a very long time. And for a while, she could forget that other than her friends, she was alone in the world. He soothed her.

Regulus broke the kiss with a smile and leaned his forehead against hers. He hoped that Severus and Evelyn were wrong, that it wasn't going to end badly for them. Sitting here like this it just didn't seem possible. He gave her a little wink and kissed her again.

When he rested his forehead against hers, she cupped his cheek gently. She wished that Remus could see that Reg was a good guy, that he treated her well. He wasn't as arrogant as he came off sometimes. But she had a feeling Remus would never see that side of him. Emma smiled as he winked and let him kiss her.

With a smile, Regulus pulled away and hugged her close to him. He wasn't a particularly violent person, mostly due to his apathetic nature, but if anyone bothered them at this moment he might have to kill them. He sighed, content with the moment and closed his eyes.

She smiled softly and curled up in his lap, head on his shoulder as he held her. Reg sighed and her smile widened a little. "Thank you, Reg," she murmured, tightening her arms around him.

"Whatever for?" Regulus asked, brow furrowed but not opening his eyes.

"This," she said softly. "Just being here with me like this." Emma smiled as her eyes slipped closed. "I feel safe with you."

"Well you are," He said, trying to hold back a yawn, "I would never let anyone hurt you."

"I know." She saw how upset he was about what Evelyn had been doing to her, trying to get between them and she knew things were right, having him in her life like this.

Regulus gave her a small squeeze and sighed, "Good," He said

Regulus rested his head on hers, a feeling of warmth and safety lulling him to sleep.

Emma yawned softly, snuggled safely against him. Soon, she too had drifted off.
